In modern society, we have an enduring interest in wildlife, largely because the vast majority only experience it in person very rarely. You can see evidence of this obsession all around, with television superstars like David Attinborough being household names, solely because of their contributions to the natural sciences, and their public persona related to that. In fact, there are literally dozens of shows which revolve around wildlife. Most people only get to experience wildlife, particularly of the dangerous, large, predatory variety, on TV. A safari is the best way for ordinary people to experience what they would otherwise only be able to vicariously experience through their television. A safari can be conducted with a number of different goals in mind. It could be focused on finding some big herd animals. Seeing a mass migration occurring is a lot different in person than on TV; you can literally feel the ground shaking. Usually, a safari will seek to find as diverse a list of animals as possible, with the ultimate goal of seeing the African big five; the lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros. These animals are some of the greatest, and largest land animals around the world, and seeing them in person, in their natural habitat is a unique experience, one which if you have an opportunity to experience, you shouldn’t pass up.
