New Visa requirments have been annouced for Canadians travelling to South America
As of May 2014 new laws have been brought in regarding entry in to South African from Canada. At present, tourist and business visas are not required for stays up to 90 days, and Canadians used to be able to go from South Africa across in to neighbouring countries and then return and effectively restart their 90 day visa pass.
The new law just brought in to force has now changed that which means Canadians wishing to re-enter the country after a few days or weeks may not automatically get a new visitor’s visa.
This means that people may have their re-entry refused by immigrations services if they try and do this. They are advising that all people that may be thinking of travelling this way across the countries and those looking for an extended stay over 90 days should contact the South African Department of Home Affairs two months prior to their visa expiring. Those who stay longer than the 90 days can face fines or even jail time.
