Will tourism ever recover?

The tourist industry in the UK and around the world has suffered tremendously in the last twelve months and people are questioning whether it will ever recover. It is a certainty that not all holiday resorts and hotels will bounce back as the amount of money that the owners have lost cannot be recouped quickly enough to enable them to stay in business. There are however some holiday businesses that have low overheads that may survive albeit only with the help of grants and loans. Examples of this may be caravan and camping parks where only routine maintenance has needed to be carried out during the winter months.

As the vaccination programme in each country becomes established there should be a gradual reopening of holiday resorts and hotels as the owners are eager to welcome back foreign visitors to their shores. There may still be some restrictions in place, but hopefully before too long people will adjust to the new normal of hand sanitising and mask wearing.

If it is not possible to visit your usual holiday destination abroad it may mean that a holiday in the UK is on the cards for most of us. This will inevitably boost tourism here so let’s just hope for a hot summer this year.
