The Gorillas are a massive part of South Africa and are the reason for many people choosing to take a safari holiday there. Instead of the usual Jeep driving safari trip, you can chose to go on a Gorilla trek.

South Africa offers a great opportunity to see these magnificent mammals in their nature environment up close. Many trips involve trekking through the rainforest for some time until you find a family of gorillas. This may be hours, so you will need to ensure you are relatively fit and have a good pair of walking boots.

Once you have found a family, you will usually settle down about 10 meters away from them and study their behaviour for about 40 – 50 mins. Watching the adults groom each other and the children playing is a beautiful sight and you will often be under the gaze of the great silverback patriarch, who will be watching his whole family to ensure their safety.
