Kruger national park
In the north east of South Africa, on the border with Mozambique, lies the world renowned Kruger national park. Bounded by the Limpopo and Crocodile rivers and the Lebombo mountains to the East, it covers a vast area (almost the size of Wales). First established in 1926, the park offers some of the best locations to see Africa’s “Big 5” alongside a plethora of other wildlife, such as the stunning martial eagle or the endangered African wild dog.
The park offers a wide range of lodgings from the indulgent extravagance of a luxury lodge to the thrill of tented safari. For the more adventurous, you can even go on a self drive safari. There are various safari options available, including for disabled travellers, with family friendly tours to romantic wedding and honeymoon packages on offer.
May to September is the dry, winter season and offers the best time to see wildlife as vegetation is sparse and the parks are quieter. The risk of malaria is very low at this time of year.
