Elephant back safari in South Africa

Many of us only ever see an elephant in a Zoo or safari park and this can be worlds apart from seeing one up close and personal in their natural habitat. Seeing elephants out in the wild in South Africa is a dream for many people but imagine actually going on a safari on the back of one of these magnificent mammals. A few South African game reserves have gone that extra mile and are now able to offer the once in a lifetime chance of an elephant back safari trip.

Game viewing on elephant back provides you with the unique opportunity of getting really close to wildlife that you could normally only view from far off. The smell of the elephants overpowers that of people so that other animals like rhino, giraffe and buck etc will not be scared off by the scent of people nearby allowing you to get amazingly close to the wildlife on show. These trips are growing in popularity and so booking is essential to avoid disappointment.

The elephants are prepared with a comfortable saddle and you’ll be seated behind an experienced elephant handler, so unlike a camel ride where you can come off feeling quite tender, you should be able to go a good few hours with like discomfort.
