New travel rules for South Africa
As of the 1st June 2015, South Africa has introduced new travel rules for parents traveling with children under the age of eighteen. They have tightened up their security which now means that you are required to show your child’s full birth certificate when entering South Africa and that if only one parent is accompanying the child, then legal authority or proof of parental consent may be required.
Unfortunately there is quite a high crime rate in South Africa but most of this happens in isolated areas, away from where tourists normally venture.
If travelling to South Africa you must be vigilant at all times and as there have been reports of people being followed from airports and held at gun point until they hand over possessions and money.
As with any country, you need to consider your safety, but as long as you stay aware and know the limitations of when and where you should go and not go, you should be fine.
